Edwards had been making a large expansion of their company when they opened this complex in 1984.  As a part of an outdoor shopping plaza, the Edwards University theatres were similar in concept to the Charter Centre, Town Center and El Toro 5.  Located near University of California Irvine, this latest addition to Edwards’ roster had the usual lobby with restrooms upstairs, and viewing windows into the projection booth.

For a short time, it seemed as though the University would show a number of 70mm films and possibly become a regular 70mm venue.  But by 1986, the University stopped showing 70mm prints for good.

The theatre is still open, now as a successful art house.
