The Edwards El Toro 5 opened in 1984 in the back section of an
outdoor shopping center. Located on busy El Toro Road, this had a
similar design to the Town Center in Costa Mesa.
There weren’t a lot of 70mm engagements at this particular theatre.
"Cocoon" (1985)
was the first such presentation.
It gained some unfortunate notoriety when an Orange County Sheriff’s
deputy was shot and killed behind the complex by a fellow officer.
The theatre remained open until the early-2000s, when it was
converted into a health club.
